Umpires are crucial for any little league program. West Pasco Little League values our volunteers and give them the support they need and/or seek to be successful. A noncredit background check is required for all league volunteers.
There is no point to beat around the bush. The role of umpiring is one of the most thankless positions within any little league program. However, the individuals who opt to provide the children with a true game experience are the most unselfish individuals that exist within a little leagues operation. Unfortunately, at times the teams or crowd can disagree with a call but the ability for umpire(s) to manage the on field action is all that makes the difference.
WPLL has a need for both volunteer umpires and staff umpires. A volunteer umpire covers games as able. A staff umpire receives a weekly text about the upcoming schedules through the league Umpire-in-chief. A staff umpire can be reimbursed or a volunteer for any game. Our reimbursement program currently provides staff umpires $45 per game.
In order to be a WPLL staff umpire one must attend an umpire clinic at West Pasco or District 12. At these clinics a staff umpire or official goes over the very basics of umpiring. These clinics usually take about 60-90 minutes. After attending an umpire clinic a prospective staff umpire will do approximately 3 games with a staff umpired. During these games the prospective umpire will receive feedback on their performance about information about situational awareness to be given a deeper understanding of the role of an umpire. Please follow our social media page on Facebook @WestPascoLittleLeague on the events page for more information about our umpire clinics.
WPLL also appreciates community members who choose to dedicate their time to being an umpire even if they do not have a child on a West Pasco Little League roster. Ensuring you, as an umpire or any volunteer for WPLL, conduct yourself with the highest ethics is paramount.
